Across Virginia, Vincentians respond to calls from our friends in need and often, within a day or two, are visiting with our friends at their homes-listening to their challenges and working with them to get help and find solutions. The home visit is the core of our work.
Many of our Conferences work with their parish food pantry. Vincent's Pantry, at St Michael's in Glen Allen, was created and run by our Vincentians to help with the most basic need-healthy food for those we serve.
Often times are friends in need find themselves seeking easy cash through ridiculously high interest loans. These loans only put our friends further in the hole. Advocating together on behalf of those without a voice. A national Vincentian effort to help our friends in need, we identify those issues that are critical to those living in poverty and need, and help bring attention to them so communities and our elected representatives can help develop strategies and tactics that will provide the most effective and efficient means to reduce or eliminate poverty.
Often times, our friends in need will need mattresses. Our Council, through our thrift store, can provide new mattresses and platforms for friends in need working with our Vincentians.

In 2024, St Vincent de Paul Council started the Car Repair Fund. Many of our neighbors in need struggle to make ends meet. Often, they cannot afford a car repair. But without transportation, their lives become even more challenging. This fund provides additional support for our Conferences during their home visits.
Often, our neighbors in need will find shelter in an extended stay motel. They are working can afford the rent but they are unable to save for a deposit for a true home of their own. This program helps with a deposit and other move in costs while providing in depth case management for 1 year to help those we serve.
